Jamshedpur, Sept 16: Two petrol pump employees who were riding back home on a bike from duty were killed on being hit by a speeding trailer on the NH-33 under Chandil thana area in adjoining Seraikela-Kharsawan district late last night.
The mishap occurred on a flyover between the stretch of Saherbera and Pathardih of the NH about 30 kms away from here at about 10.30 pm on Friday.
Identified as Dukhuram Soren and Kheturam Soren, they were returning home at the Edalbera village in Chandil when the speeding trailer deviated from its usual course and hit the bike from behind. As a result of the knock, both the bikers who were in their mid-twenties were killed on the spot.
The victims who worked at the petrol pump located at Asanboni in Chandil were riding at a moderate speed despite which they fell victim to the fatal mishap due to the reckless driving of the trailer.
After getting to know about the accident, a police party led by Chandil thana OC Dinesh Thakur reached the spot and recovered the bodies for postmortem. The police also seized the damaged motorcycle and the trailer that the driver had abandoned near the mishap scene before fleeing the spot.
It may be mentioned here that as of now 55 persons have lost their lives in mishaps on the NH-33 in Seraikela-Kharsawan, largely due the reckless driving by the heavy vehicles.
