Jamshedpur, July 24: A 45-year-old man was shot dead by an unidentified assailant near a railway tunnel under the RIT thana area in Adityapur in the adjoining Seraikela-Kharsawan district on Monday morning.
Identified as Tilak Mahto, the gunshot victim was returning home from a nearby place having met the nature’s call at about 6.30 am when he was attacked.
Soon after the incident a police party reached the spot and the family members of the victim also reached there.
“From the preliminary investigation, it was found that the gun-shot victim had no criminal record and that he was relieved of no valuable as such as he was returning home having met nature’s call. We are trying to detect the assailant responsible for the killing, ” said RIT thana OC, Sagarlal Mahatha while talking to lagatar24.com.
Police are trying to track the shooter by taking CCTV footage from around the crime scene.
Seraikela-Kharsawan SP, Anand Prakash too arrived at the spot for inspection and talked to the bereaved family members, assuring them the assailant will be arrested soon.
The murder victim was originally a resident of Jhabri village in Chandil and was working as a hywa driver for a company located in Gamharia by staying at his sister’s house in the RIT thana area for the past one year.
The police have shifted the body to Seraikela Sadar Hospital for postmortem before registering a case of murder against the unknown.
