New Delhi, March 16: Indian speed spearhead Jasprit Bumrah moved six spots to fourth in the latest ICC rankings revealed on Wednesday, fresh off his maiden Test five-wicket haul at home. But struggling star batter Virat Kohli slips to ninth position.
Bumrah surpassed Shaheen Afridi, Kyle Jamieson, Tim Southee, James Anderson, Neil Wagner, and Josh Hazlewood in the Test rankings for bowlers after returning with eight wickets in the Day/Night second Test against Sri Lanka in Bengaluru.
Former captain Kohli, who has struggled with the bat and has been unable to convert his starts, has lost four places but is still in the top ten, just ahead of Rishabh Pant, who has been static at number ten. Kohli scored 45 in the first Test against Pakistan in Mohali, then 23 and 13 in the second. Since his 136 against Bangladesh in November 2019, he has unable to hit a century.
India captain Rohit Sharma, on the other hand, maintained his sixth place in the batting rankings to remain the best-placed Indian.
Shreyas Iyer’s match-winning 92 and 67 against Sri Lanka were rewarded with a 40-place jump in the batting rankings, putting him in 37th place overall. After a valiant 107 in the second innings in Bangalore, Sri Lanka Test captain Dimuth Karunaratne climbed to a career-high No 3 position.
Ravindra Jadeaja was dislodged from the top spot in the all-rounders’ rankings, while West Indies’ Jason Holder recaptured the position. After his 175 not out and nine wickets in the Mohali Test earlier this month, Jadeja had risen to No 1. In the all-rounders’ ranking, Ravichandran Ashwin, Shakib Al Hasan, and Ben Stokes rounded out the top five.
Mohammed Shami moved up a spot in the bowlers’ rankings, displacing fellow countryman Ravindra Jadeja to 17th. Pat Cummins, R Ashwin, and Kagiso Rabada are the top three bowlers in the world.
