Three Indians have been named to the ICC Men’s Test Team of the Year: Rohit Sharma, Rishabh Pant, and Ravichandran Ashwin. Kane Williamson has been selected the captain of the 2021 ICC Test Team. Last year, New Zealand defeated India to win the World Test Championship under Williamson’s leadership. Aside from the three Indians, the team includes two New Zealanders, three Pakistanis, one Australian, one Sri Lankan, and one Englishman.

In the longest format of the game, Rohit Sharma came into his own as an opener.

In the calendar year, he hit 906 runs with an average of 47.68 and two centuries. Both centuries came against England in opposing conditions, one at home in Chennai and the other away from home at the Oval in cloudy conditions. Sharma would play a major role for India in 2022, with important duties looming.

In all three formats, Rishabh Pant has cemented his position as India’s first-choice wicketkeeper-batter, with his continued progress notably evident in the Test arena. In 12 matches, he scored 748 runs at an average of 39.36, including a memorable century against England in Ahmedabad. He also threw 39 strikeouts in 23 innings, and his glovework is getting better.

Many hitters were taken aback by the off-spinner Ashwin’s brilliance. In the home series against England and New Zealand, Ashwin took 54 wickets at an average of 16.64 in nine matches, making a significant impact. He also scored 355 runs at a 25.35 average, including a crucial century against England in Chennai.

ICC Men’s Test Team of 2021: Dimuth Karunaratne (Sri Lanka), Rohit Sharma (India), Kane Williamson (c, New Zealand), Marnus Labuschagne (Australia), Joe Root (England), Fawad Alam (Pakistan), Rishabh Pant (India), Ravichandran Ashwin (India), Kyle Jamieson (New Zealand), Shaheen Shah Afridi (Pakistan), and Hasan Ali (Pakistan).
