Dhanbad, Mar 27: IIT Indian School of Mines (ISM) Dhanbad in association with Energy Swaraj Foundation (ESF) held a training programme for technocrats of the institution to know about energy generation, how it works and learn how excessive use of energy is causing climate change.
Trainer Sanjay Kumar said that the aim of this training programme was to educate all people to understand the impact of excessive use of energy on the environment, enabling individuals and institutions to make an informed decision on the source of energy and their appropriate amount and learn how to mitigate climate change.
The training programme was organized by the Career Development Centre (CDC) of IIT (ISM).
Kumar said that as energy is limited and we are not making efficient use of it and because of the fact that we are not conscious energy users, it is imperative to create awareness to ensure efficient use of energy.
Prof Debjani Mitra, Chairperson, of the Career Development Centre (CDC) of IIT (ISM) who coordinated the programme while emphasizing the need for coordinated and emergent measures to ensure energy conservation and climate change mitigation said, “We all know that the revolver is loaded and it can fire any time and we are waiting but instead we should initiate immediate action”
Trainer Kumar who carried out the training programme using different modules said “the man behind the training initiative is Chetan Singh Solanki, professor at the department of Energy Science and Engineering, IIT Bombay. He is a educator, innovator, researcher, entrepreneur, author and philosopher and also known as Solar Man of India and Founder of Energy Swaraj Foundation”
“Prof Solanki has undertaken an 11-year Energy Swaraj Yatra through a solar bus for bringing awareness and action about climate change. He lives in a bus and pledged not to go home for 11 years.
