Dhanbad, Oct 6: Altogether 30 students of class IX to XI of Dhanbad City School, Bhuli, today visited the IIT Indian School of Mines (ISM) laboratory and learnt about the technology to develop intelligent robots.
The laboratory visit was organized under the K-12 Outreach programme of the IIT ISM Media and Branding department in which the students learnt about the techniques of web designing, animation, electronics designing and others.
Prof Rajni Singh, Dean of Media and Branding of IIT ISM, gave a brief introduction of the K-12 Outreach Programme and its objectives to the students.
Debashish Chatterjee, technology manager of TEXMiN ( the mining technology innovation hub of the institute), apprised students of the different facilities of TEXMiN, including Startup Incubation Centre, Sandvik Mining Automation Learning Centre (SMAC), Fab Lab, Data Visualization Lab, Rapid Prototyping Facility and Mining Technology and Excellence Centre.
During the tour, students not only learnt about the innovative research being carried out in the mining technology arena besides the electronics designing and robotics but also came to know about the training and startup promotion activities being carried out under two different facilities of the institute including Naresh Vashisht Centre for Tinkering and Innovation (NVCTI) and Atal Community Innovation Centre (ACIC).
Aamna Sadiya a student of class X, after completing the tour, commented that it was a memorable experience for them as the complicated scientific facts were unravelled in a quite simplistic manner with the help of high-end equipment present in the different laboratories of the institute.
Another student Md Shadab Alam, a class IX student said that it was the first time that he visited IIT (ISM) and was amazed to see the huge state-of-the-art laboratories.
Umang Singhal, a teacher accompanying the students said, “The trip was quite enriching for the students in terms of knowledge gain as they took a keen interest in different high equipment and enquired about the ways of getting admission to the premier technical institute”.
