Chennai, April 21: Today, a student was discovered dead in a dormitory at the Indian Institute of Technology in Chennai, stated the police, who also noted that they believe it to be a case of suicide.
According to the authorities, the second-year Maharashtrian student was pursuing a degree in chemical engineering.
This would be the fourth occurrence of suicide at IIT-Madras this year if the police eventually confirm it following an investigation.
A 32-year-old IIT-Madras PhD student committed suicide in his room earlier this month. He was a West Bengal native.
Prior to that, in March, a third-year student at the same institution committed suicide. He was from Andhra Pradesh and was 20 years old.
At IIT-Madras, a research researcher from Maharashtra committed suicide in February.
