Mumbai, April 21: Famous Bollywood actor Akshay Kumar was recently mocked for engaging with a pan masala company.
The actor has now declared that he will no longer be the ambassador for the tobacco brand for which he had signed up after receiving a lot of anger from his followers.
At midnight on Thursday, April 21, Akshay Kumar released a statement on social media announcing the news. He went so far as to apologise to his admirers.
He wrote, “I am sorry. I would like to apologise to you, all my fans and well-wishers. Your reaction over the past few days has deeply affected me. While I have not and will not endorse tobacco, I respect the outpouring of your feelings in light of my association with Vimal Elaichi. With all humility, I step back (sic).”
He added, “I have decided to contribute the entire endorsement fee towards a worthy cause. The brand might continue airing the ads till the legal duration of the contract that is binding upon me, but I promise to be extremely mindful in making my future choices. In return, I shall forever continue to ask for your love and wishes (sic).”
In the recent ad for the pan masala brand, Shah Rukh and Ajay Devgn were seen welcoming Akshay Kumar to the ‘Vimal cosmos.’ They all gave the Vimal salutation and ate their elaichi (cardamom).
Fans of Akshay Kumar were dissatisfied with this. They also released previous videos of him speaking out against the consumption of alcohol and tobacco.
