New Delhi: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has released a weather forecast predicting heavy to very heavy rainfall across northwest and east India, with extremely heavy rainfall anticipated in the northeast over the next 4-5 days. This forecast follows recent heavy downpours, including isolated extremely heavy falls in Gujarat, east Uttar Pradesh, and Bihar.

Key Weather Highlights:

  • Northwest and Central India: The IMD attributes the forecasted weather to a monsoon trough north of its usual position, a cyclonic circulation over Himachal Pradesh, and a trough running from southeast Pakistan to Bangladesh. These conditions will lead to widespread light to moderate rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning over the next five days.
    • Regions Expected to See Heavy Rainfall:
      • Jammu, Kashmir, Ladakh, Gilgit, Baltistan, Muzaffarabad, Himachal Pradesh, Haryana, and Chandigarh from July 4 to 7.
      • Punjab and east Rajasthan from July 3 to 7.
      • West Madhya Pradesh from July 3 to 5.
      • East Madhya Pradesh from July 3 to 4.
      • Chhattisgarh on July 3.
    • Very Heavy Rainfall Predictions:
      • Himachal Pradesh, Haryana, and Chandigarh on July 3.
      • Uttarakhand on July 7.
      • Uttar Pradesh from July 3 to 7.
      • Isolated extremely heavy rainfall in Uttarakhand from July 3 to 6.

Northeast and East India:

The IMD reports cyclonic circulations over Manipur and Bangladesh, coupled with a trough extending from northeast Madhya Pradesh to Manipur. These factors will result in widespread light to moderate rainfall with thunderstorms and lightning over the next five days.

West and South India:

A cyclonic circulation over Gujarat and an off-shore trough running along the south Gujarat-Kerala coasts will influence the weather in the region.

With these predictions, the IMD advises residents in the affected areas to stay alert and take necessary precautions against potential flooding and related hazards.
