Jamshedpur, July 13: IMD’s Ranchi Meteorological Centre issued a forecast of light to moderate rain at a few places over Jharkhand today.
Weathermen said some places might also witness thunder and lightning due to the formation of convective clouds.
Light to moderate rain involves rainfall between 10 and 20 mm.
Today’s satellite pictures indicated that the low-pressure area over coastal Odisha intensified into a well-marked low-pressure area over south coastal Odisha and an associated cyclonic circulation was extending up to 7.6 km above mean sea level.
The monsoon trough was today passing through Jaisalmer, Kota, Raisen, Mandla, Raipur, Jharsuguda, centre of well-marked low-pressure area over south coastal Odisha southeastwards to east-central Bay of Bengal extending up to 1.5 km above the mean sea level.
The sun played hide and seek in several places.
Weathermen said the formation of a low-pressure area over the Bay of Bengal close to the Odisha coast was resulting in heavy moisture incursion into the atmosphere.
As of today, Jharkhand’s rain deficit stood at 48 percent. Against a normal of 307 mm Jharkhand has so far received 158.6 mm, thus resulting in such a huge rain deficit.
