New Delhi: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a warning of heavy to extremely heavy rainfall over Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, and Madhya Pradesh over the next two to three days. The forecast comes as a result of a depression that has formed over central India, which is predicted to move north-northeastwards while maintaining its intensity until Friday, after which it is expected to gradually weaken.
According to the IMD’s latest update, the depression is currently centered around 70 km east-northeast of Agra and 90 km southeast of Aligarh. The IMD has provided specific rainfall forecasts for different regions:
- Uttarakhand: Most areas are likely to experience light to moderate rainfall, with heavy to very heavy rainfall in some places on Friday, and isolated heavy rain on Saturday. A moderate flash flood risk has been issued for parts of Shimla, Kinnaur, and Sirmaur districts until Friday.
- West Uttar Pradesh: Widespread light to moderate rainfall is expected, with heavy to very heavy rainfall in a few areas on Thursday and isolated heavy rain continuing until Saturday.
- East Uttar Pradesh: Light to moderate rain is expected in many areas, with heavy rain at a few locations on Thursday and isolated rainfall predicted until Saturday.
- West Madhya Pradesh: Light to moderate rainfall is likely in many places, with heavy to very heavy rain expected in northwest parts on Thursday and isolated heavy rainfall through Saturday.
- East Madhya Pradesh: Expect light to moderate rainfall across most areas, with heavy rain in a few locations until Saturday.
- East Rajasthan: Many areas are expected to experience light to moderate rain, with heavy to very heavy rainfall at isolated locations on Thursday and isolated heavy rain on Saturday.
- Haryana: Light to moderate rainfall is expected in most areas, with heavy to very heavy rain in the southern parts on Thursday and isolated heavy rain continuing until Saturday.
- Northwest Madhya Pradesh: Heavy to very heavy rainfall is forecast for the northwest areas on Thursday.
The IMD has advised residents in these regions to stay alert for possible flooding and waterlogging due to the intense rainfall.
