New Delhi, Feb 9: In the opening Test of the four-match India vs. Australia Test series on Thursday, India’s R Ashwin recorded his 450th Test wicket. By taking the 450th wicket in his 89th Test match, Ashwin passed Kumble to become the India bowler who accomplished this achievement the fastest.
The Indian off-spinner has now taken his 450th Test wicket, falling just short of Muttiah Muralitharan of Sri Lanka, who accomplished the record in his 80th Test match, as the second-fastest bowler in the world.
During the first Test match of the eagerly awaited Border-Gavaskar Trophy, which began on February 9 and will last until mid-March, Ashwin dismissed Alex Carey in the 54th over. After the SG ball softened, the Nagpur pitch started supporting the spinners on Day 1. Carey’s partnership with Peter Handscomb, which was intended to put India in danger, was broken when the off spinner bowled around their legs.
After Alex Carey failed to complete his reverse sweep and was consequently bowled around his legs, Ashwin slammed into his stumps.
Usman Khawaja and David Warner were both dismissed by the Indian pacers within the first 20 minutes of play after they discovered swing with the new ball at the beginning of the game. Mohammed Siraj’s inswinger trapped Khawaja, and Mohammed Shami uprooted David Warner’s off stump.
