IND vs NZ: Shubman Gill becomes fastest Indian to score 1000 ODI runs

New Delhi, Jan 18: Shubman Gill became the fastest Indian to accumulate 1000 ODI runs during India’s One-Day match versus New Zealand at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad on Wednesday.

In his 19th inning, Gill reached 106 to surpass the threshold. Gill became the quickest Indian and joint-second fastest person to accomplish the record(24 innings), passing Virat Kohli and Shikhar Dhawan. While falling short of Fakhar Zaman’s record of fastest to 1000 ODI runs in 18 innings, he matched Iman-ul-Haq to surpass the milestone in 19 innings.

After striking a century against Sri Lanka in the third One-Day International in Thiruvananthapuram, Gill scored his second consecutive century.

During the three-match series against South Africa in October, Shubman Gill became the first Indian to reach 500 runs in One-Day Internationals in the shortest amount of time. To break the record, he needed ten innings.
