Ahmedabad, Feb 6: India captain Rohit Sharma has stated that leading the Men in Blue in their 1000th One-Day International will be a privilege.
Indian team will accomplish this milestone in the first One-Day International against the West Indies at the Narendra Modi Stadium on Sunday. India has 518 wins and 431 loses in 999 One-Day Internationals. In 2002, the Men in Blue played their 500th match, and now, two decades later, they have surpassed the milestone of 1000 ODIs.
Notably, Indian team will be locking horns against the West Indies in a 3-match ODI series followed by a 3-match T20I series. All the three ODIs of the series will be played in Ahmedabad’s Narendra Modi Stadium behind closed doors, and the T20Is will be played at the Eden Gardens Stadium in Kolkata with a 75 per cent crowd attendance.
For the Men in Blue, Rohit Sharma will make his full-time captaincy debut. A Covid epidemic shook India, with four players – openers Shikhar Dhawan and Ruturaj Gaikwad, middle-order batter Shreyas Iyer, and net bowler Navdeep Saini – all testing positive, as well as a few support staff members.
The West Indies, on the other hand, will be captained by Kieron Pollard, a seasoned cricketer. For the India series, they have recalled Kemar Roach, Nkrumah Bonner, and Brandon King to the ODI team. They are now ranked 8th in the ICC Men’s One-Day International rankings.
