New Delhi, Jan 29: India, led by Shafali Verma, won the first-ever U19 Women’s T20 Cup in South Africa, making history in the process. On January 29 at Potchefstroom’s Senwes Park, India defeated Grace Scrivens’ England by a margin of seven wickets in the championship match.
India did a great job after choosing to field first, dismissing their opponents for a pitiful total of 68 in just 17.1 overs. There was no stopping Shafali’s women after they reduced England to 22 for four in 6.2 overs.

English player Ryana MacDonald-Gay led the team in scoring with 19 runs off 24 balls and three fours. Although they reached double digits, Niamh Holland, Alexa Stonehouse, and Sophia Smale were unable to convert.
Parshavi Chopra, Archana Devi, and Titas Sadhu each secured two wickets. Sadhu was India’s preferred bowler because she conceded just six runs while maintaining a 1.50 economy rate. Shafali, the captain, Mannat Kashyap, and Sonam Yadav each claimed one wicket.
India scored 16 runs in the first two overs, giving Shafali and Shweta Sehrawat a head start in the run chase. Shafali was dismissed by Hannah Baker, who had reached 15 off after hitting one four and a six, to give England their first victory.
Scrivens’ first victim was Sehrawat, who finished the event with the most runs scored. With three half-centuries and a top score of 92, Shweta amassed 297 runs from seven matches at an average of 99.
Soumya Tiwari and Gongadi Trisha grabbed control and led India to victory after they had lost two wickets for 20 in 3.4 overs. Trisha had reached position 24 in her innings when Stonehouse took her out. India eventually reached the target with 36 balls remaining. Soumya continued to be in on 24.
