New Delhi, Jan 30: India’s daily Covid-19 curve showed a slight improvement today, with 2.34 lakh cases reported. The current cases now account for 4.59 percent of all infections, while the COVID-19 recovery rate has dropped to 94.21 percent nationwide.

The daily positivity rate increased from 13.39 to 14.50 percent, while the weekly positivity rate reached 16.40 percent.

According to a study by Chinese experts, a form of coronavirus known as NeoCov that spreads among bats in South Africa could represent a hazard to people in the future if it mutates further.

NeoCov is closely connected to the Middle East respiratory syndrome (MERS), a viral disease initially detected in Saudi Arabia in 2012. The work, which has yet to be peer-reviewed, was just posted on the preprint repository BioRxiv.

Coronaviruses are a broad group of viruses that can cause a variety of illnesses, from the common cold to Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS).

NeoCov was discovered in a colony of bats in South Africa, according to researchers from the Chinese Academy of Sciences and Wuhan University, and has only propagated among these creatures so far.

Meanwhile, India’s daily Covid curve showed a slight improvement on Saturday, with 2.35 lakh instances reported, down 6% from the previous day. Covid has claimed the lives of 871 people in the last 24 hours. The active cases now comprise 4.91 per cent of the total infections, while the national COVID-19 recovery rate has decreased to 93.89 per cent.

According to the ministry, the total number of doses provided in the country as part of the nationwide vaccination push has surpassed 165.70 crore.
