New Delhi, Jan 4: India has reported 37,379 new Covid-19 cases and 124 deaths in the 24 hours leading up to 9 a.m. Tuesday. The active cases in the country totaled 1,71,830, with 11,007 recoveries.
According to the Union Ministry of Health, the total number of Omicron cases has reached 1,892, with Maharashtra having the largest number of cases (568). The novel variety has been identified in 382 instances in Delhi, Kerala (185), Rajasthan (174), and Gujarat (152).
According to the Health Ministry, the active cases account for 0.49% of the total cases. The daily positivity rate in the country stands at 3.24%, while the weekly positivity rate is at 2.05%.
Meanwhile, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal announced on Tuesday that he had tested positive for the disease.
“I have tested positive for Covid. Mild symptoms. Have isolated myself at home. Those who came in touch wid me in last few days, kindly isolate yourself and get yourself tested,” he tweeted.

The vaccination campaign for children began on Monday, with more than 41 lakh children aged 15 to 18 receiving their initial injections.
Covid instances have been steadily increasing in cities around the country. On Monday, Delhi recorded 4,099 new illnesses, up from 500 cases only six days before. There have been 8,082 instances reported in Mumbai, but 90% of the patients are asymptomatic.
