India reports 44,877 new cases in 24 hours, positivity rate dips to 3.17%

New Delhi, Feb 13: India has registered 44,877 new cases of coronavirus disease (Covid-19), in the previous 24 hours, bringing the daily positive rate down to 3.17 percent, according to a Union health ministry bulletin released on Sunday morning.

In just one day, 684 people died as a result of the viral illness, bringing the total death toll to 5,08,665. The overall number of infections in the country today stands at 42,631,421, with 5,37,045 cases in active status. At the moment, active cases account for 1.26 percent of all cases.

Today’s number of positive cases is 11% lower than yesterday’s, when 45,486 new infections were added to the list. According to data from the Ministry of Health, the weekly positive rate was 4.46 percent.

In the last 24 hours, 1,17,591 people have been released, bringing the total number of people released to 4,15,85,711. The current recovery rate is 97.55 percent.

After a gap of more than 40 days, India’s daily Covid-19 tally stayed below 50,000 for the second day in a running. According to the ministry’s data, 750 million tests have been performed so far, with 14,15,279 tests conducted in the last 24 hours. In the past one day, a total of 49,16,801 vaccination doses were provided across the country. This included 16,65,792 vaccines in the 15-18 age group and 3,32,764 booster shots. A cumulative total of 1.72 billion vaccine doses have been administered so far under the nationwide vaccination drive.
