India reports 5,910 new Covid cases, 16 deaths in last 24 hours

New Delhi, Sept 5: With 5,910 new coronavirus infections reported in a single day, India’s total COVID-19 case count increased to 4,44,62,445, while active cases decreased to 53,974, according to Union Health Ministry data released on Monday.

The death toll increased to 5,28,007 with 16 fatalities, including seven deaths confirmed by Kerala, according to data updated at 8 a.m.

The active cases account for 0.12% of total infections, while the national COVID-19 recovery rate has risen to 98.69%, according to the health ministry. In the past 24 hours, the active COVID-19 caseload has decreased by 1,140 cases.

The daily positivity rate was 2.60 percent, while the weekly positivity rate was 2.15 percent.

According to the government, the country has received 213.52 crore doses of Covid vaccinations as part of the statewide COVID-19 vaccination drive. On August 7, 2020, India’s COVID-19 tally surpassed 20 lakh, 30 lakh on August 23, 40 lakh on September 5, and 50 lakh on September 16.

It reached 60 lakh on September 28, 70 lakh on October 11, 80 lakh on October 29, 90 lakh on November 20, and one crore on December 19. India passed the two crore case mark on May 4, three crore on June 23 last year, and four crore on January 25 this year.
