New Delhi, Dec.6: India has recorded 8,306 new Covid-19 cases, down 6.6% from yesterday, in the last 24 hours. The overall number of cases now stands at 3,46,41,561.
Kerala leads the way with 4,450 cases, followed by Tamil Nadu (724 cases), Maharashtra (707 cases), West Bengal (620 cases), and Karnataka (456 cases). These five states account for 83.76 percent of new cases, with Kerala alone accounting for 53.58 percent of new cases.
In the last 24 hours, at least 211 deaths have been reported in the country, bringing the overall number of deaths to 4,73,537. Kerala had the most casualties (161), followed by Tamil Nadu with 10 daily deaths.
The recovery rate in India is now at 98.35%.
Earlier on Sunday, Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya reviewed the RT-PCR testing facilities at Delhi’s IGI Airport.
“Reviewed RT-PCR testing facilities for passengers coming from at-risk countries at the IGI airport, New Delhi. Thirty-five rapid RT-PCR testing machines are functional at Terminal 3. With this, screening and testing time of passengers can be reduced to even 30 minutes,” Mandaviya tweeted.

The number of Omicron variant cases in India increased on Sunday, after the first instances were reported in Delhi and Rajasthan, and seven more cases were recorded in Maharashtra.
Delhi, Maharashtra, and Rajasthan each contributed one, seven, and nine cases of the type that has sent alarm bells throughout the world to India’s Omicron tally.
Omicron cases have been documented in the states of Karnataka, Gujarat, Delhi, and Rajasthan so far.
