Mumbai, Jan 5: Mansukh Mandaviya, the Union Minister of Health, announced on Thursday that India will concentrate on health emergency prevention, preparedness, and response during its G20 Presidency using a ‘One Health’ strategy and antimicrobial resistance (AMR) surveillance.
“India’s G20 Presidency health priorities will be focussed on health emergencies prevention, preparedness, and response,” said Mansukh Mandaviya.
In order to provide evidence and advance inter-sectoral collaboration between the public health, animal health, and environmental health sectors in order to achieve better public health outcomes, the ‘One Health’ approach helps design, implement, and monitor programmes, policies, and research on AMR surveillance.
India will work to play a significant part in bringing together debates about Global Health Architecture in various venues and serve as a facilitator for minimising fragmentation and duplication. The nation also plans to take the initiative to represent the Global South in the discussions taking place across multilateral global health platforms.
The Union Minister also stressed the importance of enhancing pharmaceutical industry collaboration by developing an ongoing platform for medical countermeasures and assuring the accessibility of treatments and diagnostics that are reliable, high-quality, and reasonably priced.
In order to tackle upcoming health problems, India, recognised as the world’s pharmacy, would be able to use the agenda to encourage distributed manufacture of vaccinations, medications, and diagnostics globally.
During the epidemic, India has shipped medicines and vaccines to over 150 different nations.
India can take a proactive role in providing health security for the Global South and low- and low-middle income countries at a time when the availability of medical countermeasures is being connected to national security.
Additionally, Mandaviya suggested hosting site events like a workshop on collaborative research in digital health to increase access to medical countermeasures, medical value travel, and holistic healthcare by implementing universal health coverage and enhancing the provision of healthcare services.
