New Delhi: Former US President Donald Trump stated on Tuesday that India would take appropriate steps regarding the repatriation of illegal immigrants following his discussions with Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The announcement comes after Trump and Modi had a conversation addressing various bilateral and global issues.
Trump mentioned that Prime Minister Modi is likely to visit the United States in February, though the Ministry of External Affairs has not confirmed this. Speaking aboard Air Force One, Trump said, “I had a long talk with him this morning. He is coming to the White House next month, probably February. We have a very good relationship with India.”
Key Highlights of the Call
During their discussions, the two leaders talked about global peace, security in the Indo-Pacific, the Middle East, and Europe. Trump emphasized the importance of India increasing its procurement of American-made security equipment and moving toward a balanced bilateral trade relationship.
The White House released a statement noting the significance of the U.S.-India strategic partnership and Modi’s anticipated visit to the White House. The statement also highlighted India hosting the Quad Leaders’ Summit for the first time later this year.
PM Modi’s Response
Following the talks, PM Modi tweeted, “Delighted to speak with my dear friend President @realDonaldTrump. Congratulated him on his historic second term. We are committed to a mutually beneficial and trusted partnership. We will work together for the welfare of our people and towards global peace, prosperity, and security.”
