New Delhi, Jan 29: Indian Diaspora holds protest against BBC documentary on PM Modi, ‘India; The Modi Question’ at Fremont in the San Francisco Bay area of California on Saturday.
50 members under the banner ’Indian Diaspora’ marched and chanted slogans on the streets of Fremont in the San Francisco area and stating they reject BBC’s sinister and biased documentary.
During the march, people were chanting slogans like ‘biased BBC’ and ‘racist BBC.’ They also carried banners like ‘BBC is a Bogus Broadcasting Corporation,’ ‘Indian Diaspora rejects biased and sinister documentary on Prime Minister Narendra Modi,’ ‘BBC documentary spreading fake propaganda’ and ‘BBC is a fake news peddler.’
The British Broadcasting Corporation’s documentary, “India: The Modi Question” has raised a storm not just in India but also among the diaspora. The Diaspora is agitated as the documentary comes on the heels of weeks of anti-Hindu violence in Leicester the tenth-largest city in the UK.
An activist said that the protest against the BBC is to raise awareness about the BBC’s failures regarding its journalistic standards and the royal charter-which aims to provide unbiased, high quality, and distinctive journalism, to its audience.
Looking at the sensitive nature of the documentary, the Indian government has banned it from being shown in the country. It has also been taken off YouTube for its divisive content and for fear of creating hatred between communities over incidents that took place two decades back in Gujarat.
