New Delhi, Nov 3: The Indian Olympic Association (IOA) executive committee elections will take place on December 10 after the Supreme Court on Thursday approved a new schedule suggested by the Justice (retd) LN Rao committee.
In accordance with the regulations, a bench of Justices DY Chandrachud and Hima Kohli also permitted distribution of the proposed modified constitution to IOA members, allowing it to be adopted at the general body meeting slated for November 10.
The court also decided to pay Justice Rao Rs. 20 lakh as compensation for his thorough work on the draught constitution. The court also instructed Justice Rao to lay out the procedures for distributing the draught constitution to IOA members.
Additionally, the highest court declared that it alone will handle any petitions pertaining to the proposed executive committee elections or the draught constitution that other courts in the nation might consider.
The deadline for changing the IOA’s draught constitution and holding elections was accepted by the top court on October 10 and was agreed upon during a meeting with the IOC on September 27 in Lausanne, Switzerland.
It had agreed to postpone the IOA executive committee elections slated for December 3 because the International Olympic Committee executive board meeting was set for December 5.
