Rajkot, March 1: Jason Roy, the England opener, has withdrawn from the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022, citing the difficulty of remaining in the tournament’s bubble for an extended period of time.
Roy’s abrupt withdrawal is a big setback to Gujarat Titans, one of the IPL’s newest clubs, who purchased the English opener for INR 2 crore at the IPL 2022 Mega auction.
He informed the Ahmedabad-based franchise last week, according to sources. The Gujarat Titans are yet to pick a player to replace the English cricketer.
Roy has previously played for Gujarat Lions (2017), Delhi Daredevils (2018), and Sunrisers Hyderabad (2017). (2021). He was recruited in as a replacement for Australia allrounder Mitchell Marsh after going unsold at the 2021 auction. In total, Roy has 329 runs at an average of 29.90 and a strike rate of 129.01 in 13 IPL matches.
Roy was the leading run scorer for Quetta Gladiators in the Pakistan Super League (PSL) 2022, which was also played in a bio bubble. Roy scored two fifties and a hundred in 303 at an average of 50.50 and a strike rate of 170.22.
