Bengaluru, Feb 13: The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 mega auction will start on Sunday at 12pm IST at the ITC Gardenia hotel in Bengaluru for Day 2. On day one, the ten clubs spent over Rs 388 crores on 78 players, 20 of whom were foreigners, for the upcoming 15th edition of the IPL.

Notably, Ishan Kishan was the most expensive purchase on Day 1, with the Mumbai Indians paying Rs 15.25 crore for the Jharkhand wicketkeeper batsman. Chennai Super Kings, the IPL 2021 champions, recently bought back all-rounder Deepak Chahar for Rs 14 crore.

On Sunday, the auction will resume with an accelerated format that will begin after midday. Ajinkya Rahane, Cheteshwar Pujara, and Ishant Sharma, three prominent Test specialists, did not come under the hammer on the day, and it is known that teams did not want to pay money on players who do not provide value to their T20 game.

If someone indicates interest, they may return on Sunday for the fast bidding procedure. Teams are looking beyond the soon-to-be 38-year-old Bengal stumper Wriddhiman Saha, who has been assured he will not be selected for Test matches.

Umesh Yadav went unsold due to his inconsistency with the white ball, and Suresh Raina, one of the IPL’s true icons, discovered that simply playing IPL to IPL wouldn’t cut it, as Chennai Super Kings declined to bid for him. The same could be said for Steve Smith, who went unsold due to a lack of interest.
