Mumbai, Marcvh 15: Suryakumar Yadav, Mumbai Indians’ star hitter, is expected to miss the team’s first match of the IPL 2022 against Delhi Capitals on March 27.
Suryakumar is yet to fully recover from a hairline fracture in his thumb, which forced him to miss the Sri Lanka T20I and Test series.
Suryakumar Yadav is undergoing rehabilitation at the National Cricket Academy after suffering an injury while playing for India in a home series against the West Indies last month.
According to the sources, the Mumbai Indians do not want to risk exacerbating Suryakumar’s ailment and want to give him enough time to fully recuperate.
After their first game, MI has a five-day break before facing Rajasthan Royals on April 2. Suryakumar is projected to be entirely recovered by that time.
Notably, Suryakumar was one of four players retained by the Mumbai Indians ahead of the IPL 2022 mega auction. The star batsman will play a major role in MI’s IPL 2022 campaign, as Rohit Sharma’s side aims for a record-extending sixth title. Suryakumar will also play a key role for the senior national team in the run-up to the T20 World Cup this year.
