Tehran: In response to Israel’s “Operation Rising Lion,” Iran launched over 150 missiles targeting Tel Aviv, Jerusalem, and central Israel early Saturday under “True Promise 3” operation. The heavy missile barrage led to severe damage to several residential buildings and vehicles in Tel Aviv, Iranian media reported.
Multiple Explosions, Casualties Confirmed
Reports confirm explosions at no less than nine locations across Israel. As per official data, at least 17 people have been injured so far, though most are reportedly in stable condition. According to Israeli state broadcaster Kann News, two fatalities have occurred, while 21 individuals have been reported injured due to Iranian strikes on Israel’s central region.
Celebrations Erupt in Tehran
Meanwhile, crowds poured onto the streets of Tehran celebrating what they are calling the “success” of the missile strikes. This Iranian offensive follows Israeli airstrikes that targeted several Iranian military and nuclear facilities, killing many of Iran’s top military officials. The escalating conflict between Iran and Israel has already triggered a surge in global oil prices, with crude jumping nearly 7%.
Awaiting Israeli Military Response
The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) have been actively posting updates on X but have yet to issue a detailed response. The entire country remains on high alert. Emergency bunkers have been opened in Tel Aviv and surrounding areas, with authorities urging civilians to remain cautious.
Trump Issues Stern Warning to Iran
US President Donald Trump warned Iran of “horrific consequences” if American interests are attacked. Meanwhile, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu briefed Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi over phone on the evolving situation. China, at the United Nations, condemned Israel’s strike on Iranian soil as a violation of Iran’s sovereignty.
UN Appeals for Restraint
UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres appealed to both sides for immediate de-escalation and an end to hostilities. He emphasized that targeting nuclear facilities poses a grave threat to global security.
Background: Israel’s Initial Strike
This escalation was triggered by Israel’s “Operation Rising Lion” on Friday, during which Israeli Air Force bombed multiple Iranian military and nuclear facilities. The strikes reportedly killed top Iranian Revolutionary Guards commanders, including Hossein Salami, Chief of Staff Mohammad Bagheri, and missile program chief Amir Ali Hajizadeh. Iran’s main nuclear plant at Natanz also reportedly suffered significant damage during the assault.
