Ireland registered their first win of the T20 World Cup 2026 in emphatic style, crushing Oman by 96 runs at the Sinhalese Sports Club and knocking them out of the tournament at the group stage.
Ireland Post Tournament’s Highest Total
After Oman won the toss and chose to bowl, Ireland piled up a massive 235/5 in 20 overs — the highest team total of the World Cup so far. Captain Lorcan Tucker led from the front with an unbeaten 94 and was named Player of the Match. Gareth Delany added a quick 56 off 30 balls, while George Dockrell provided a stunning finish by hitting three consecutive sixes in the final over to score 35 not out off just 9 balls. For Oman, Shakeel Ahmed picked up three wickets, while Shah Faisal and Aamir Kaleem took one each.
Oman Collapse in the Chase
Chasing 236, Oman were bowled out for 139 in 18 overs, suffering a heavy defeat. Opener Aamir Kaleem top-scored with 50 off 29 balls, hitting five fours and two sixes. Hammad Mirza made 46 off 37 deliveries with six fours and a six. Ireland’s bowlers dominated the chase, with Josh Little taking three wickets, while Barry McCarthy and Matthew Humphreys claimed two each.
Oman Become First Team to Exit the Tournament
With this defeat, Oman became the first team to be eliminated from the T20 World Cup 2026 at the group stage, while Ireland kept their campaign alive with a record-setting performance.
