Tel Aviv, Oct 7: The number of fatalities in Israel resulting from the Hamas rocket attack increased to 40, as reported by The Times of Israel on Saturday, with information sourced from the Magen David Adom emergency service.
Furthermore, more than 700 individuals sustained injuries, with the Health Ministry reporting that 779 people have been admitted to hospitals.
This occurred following a series of rocket strikes hitting southern and central Israel, following a “surprise attack” initiated by Hamas on Saturday morning.
According to The Times of Israel, terrorist groups from Gaza have managed to infiltrate several communities in the southern region of the country.
Hamas has asserted that they have taken five IDF soldiers as hostages, though the IDF has not yet commented on this claim.
The Jerusalem Post stated that Hamas terror chief Mohammed Deif demanded a full-scale assault on Israel.
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu declared that Israel is “at war” and that they will “win it” in his initial response to the ‘surprise strike’.
“We are at war, not in an operation or in rounds, but at war. This morning, Hamas launched a murderous surprise attack against the State of Israel and its citizens. We have been in this since the early morning hours. I convened the heads of the security establishment and ordered, first of all, to clear out the communities that have been infiltrated by terrorists. This currently is being carried out,” Netanyahu said in a video statement.
Meanwhile, numerous global leaders have expressed their condemnation of the heinous assault on Israel carried out by Hamas terrorists.
Following the infiltration by Hamas fighters and missile attacks from Gaza, Israel has officially declared a state of war in the nation.
In response to the unexpected attack by Hamas on Israel, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) initiated “Operation Iron Swords,” as reported by The Times of Israel. As part of this operation, the IDF is striking Hamas targets in Gaza.
As reported by The Times of Israel, the Israeli military is engaged in combat with Hamas militants at various locations in southern Israel along the Gaza Strip border. These areas include Kfar Aza, Sderot, Sufa, Nahal Oz, Magen, Be’eri, and the Re’im military base.
