New Delhi, May 4: Italian Foreign Minister Luigi Di Maio will pay visit to India from May 4-6, 2022, to boost ties between the two countries.

According to a press release from the Ministry of External Affairs, this will be Di Maio’s first visit to India, and he will be accompanied by a high-level official and business group.

Dr. S Jaishankar, the External Affairs Minister, will hold bilateral talks with the visiting Foreign Minister on May 6, 2022, to review progress on the Action Plan 2020-24, which was launched at the Virtual Summit in November 2020, and to exchange views on regional and multilateral issues of mutual interest, according to the release.

Di Maio will also meet with Piyush Goyal, the Minister of Commerce and Industry, and co-chair a business roundtable. He will travel to Bengaluru before arriving in Delhi, where he will meet with Karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai.

With the successful Virtual Summit in November 2020 and Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Italy in October 2021, both nations declared a Strategic Partnership on Energy Transition, India and Italy have had long-standing, friendly relations that have gained new pace in recent years.

According to the release, the Foreign Minister’s visit will provide an opportunity to discuss the full range of bilateral relations as well as to further expand and deliver on our close partnership, particularly in priority areas such as trade and investment linkages, defence and security, clean and green energy, and science and technology cooperation.
