Jamshedpur, June 28: The court of principal judge-cum-district judge-I, Jamshedpur, Anil Kumar Mishra on Wednesday sentenced a 60-year-old man Rafique Ansari to life imprisonment for killing his own son.
Besides life imprisonment, the court has slapped a penalty of Rs 10,000 on the convict failing which his property would be auctioned for the realisation of the amount to be given to the victim’s widow.
The court had convicted Rafique, a resident of Beldih Gram in Bistupur on the basis of eight prosecution witnesses, a dying statement and also autopsy report of the case which was registered with the Bistupur thana on an FIR lodged by the victim’s brother Rahim Ansari in March 2021.
Rafique had set his married son Rahman Ansari on fire after pouring petrol on him while he was in deep slumber in his room on March 5, 2021 night.
Upon knowing about the incident, Rahim rushed him to Tata Main Hospital where he succumbed to his burns on March 11. Significantly, while Rahman was taken to the hospital, he revealed that it was his father who burnt him.
