Jamshedpur, July 1: On the completion of six years of GST, Confederation of All India Traders (CAIT) today urged the Central government to make a fresh review of the GST tax system.

Describing the completion of six years of implementation of GST in the country  as a great and  landmark success, the Confederation of All India Traders thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi and said that his vision of One Nation – One Tax has been a massive success across the country which is proved by the fact that the revenue of GST is now approx Rs 1.60 lakh crore per month, which is a big record and due to which there has been a tremendous increase in the revenue of the central and all the state governments.

The contribution of the business class across the country is very important in this growth. Merger of about 17 types of indirect taxes and about 13 types of cess has relieved the traders from multiple departments. However much more is to be needed for making GST a simplified and rationalised tax system.

Congratulating Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on the success of GST, national secretary of CAIT Suresh Sonthalia, who stays in Jamshedpur, urged that the GST tax system should be made stable and a more simplified tax by removing the current existing anomalies.

“For this, a special task force should be constituted, in which besides senior government officials, representatives of businessmen and industry should be included. While this task force will give suggestions to rationalize the GST tax system and reduce the multiplicity of laws and regulations on traders, on the other hand it will also suggest how to increase and to enlarge tax net, suggestions will also be given to prevent fake billing, tax vision and wrong inputs, ” he explained.

Sonthalia said that the central and state governments and traders have had many experiences regarding the GST tax system implemented in the country for the last six years and on the basis of those experiences, this tax system should be reviewed afresh and in regards to the Prime Minister Narendra Modi mission of ease of doing business, GST should be developed as a simple and convenient tax system that even a common businessman can easily follow.

The senior functionary suggested that a GST coordination committee should be formed at every district level in the country under the chairmanship of the collector, in which local tax and other officials and people from local business organizations should be included.
