Jamshedpur, Jan 5:  The steel city is getting ready for the three-day Dog Show Championship to be organised by Jamshedpur Kennel Club (JKC) at the Loyola School ground from Friday.

This year’s event has received around 430 entries, the highest so far. Participation this year is also the maximum in the eastern region.

The organisers informed two new events have been added for the first time, the Beagle Speciality Show and the Labrador Retriever Specialty Show. The Beagle Specialty Show will witness 57 participants while the Labrador Retriever show will have 54 participants.

The show has been designed in a way that it will be both entertaining and informative for the people of Jamshedpur, particularly canine lovers, children and parents.

The Jamshedpur Kennel Club organises this show with the aim to generate interest amongst citizens in keeping pets, bringing about awareness about breeds and their care, and organising weekly and daily clinics for their treatment at the Kennel Club.

Jamshedpur Kennel Club general secretary Sudipto Sarkar said that dogs from Jamshedpur have been competing and have won these national-level awards for the last couple of years.

A dog considered to be man’s best friend but had not received the attention and care it deserved in the eastern part of India, particularly in Bihar prior to April 1977.

This was due to the absence of any association or club for canine lovers. To overcome this, it was thought way back in 1977 to form a Kennel Club at Jamshedpur, affiliated with the Kennel Club of India, Chennai.
