Jamshedpur, July 5: The JYOTI Club of Loyola School recently organised a commendable initiative, a plastic bottle drive, within the school campus. The drive, which took place from June 26 to July 3, aimed to instil a sense of environmental responsibility among students and encourage them to actively contribute to cleaning the environment by collecting plastic bottles. The enthusiastic participation of the students led to the remarkable collection of over 10,000 bottles.

The primary objective of the plastic bottle drive organised by the JYOTI Club was to raise awareness about the detrimental effects of plastic waste on the environment. The students were encouraged to bring in empty plastic bottles and deposit them in designated collection points set up within the school. The drive served as a reminder to the students about the importance of responsible waste management and the role they can play in making a positive impact on the environment.

Among the classes, Std. 6B of Loyola School made the most significant contribution with over 1,200 bottles. They were closely followed by class 8D, which contributed 900 bottles, and class 7A, which contributed 752 bottles.

“To ensure the collected bottles are put to good use and to minimize their negative impact on the environment, an NGO called Swachhta Pukare will collaborate with the school. The NGO specialises in recycling plastic bottles into sustainable clothing. The collected bottles will be used in the manufacturing process of T-shirts, turning waste into a valuable resource,” said a member of the club.

This plastic bottle drive was initiated and led by Khirod Mishra, a student in Std 12 and Aryan Mishra, a student in Std 11. Their efforts were supported by Anthony Rodrigues (JYOTI Moderator), Jayanthi Sheshadri (Vice Principal) and Principal Father Vincent Vinod Fernandes.

The JYOTI Club’s plastic bottle drive at Loyola School exemplifies the power of collective action and the positive influence that young individuals can have in protecting the environment. The overwhelming response and the collection of over 10,000 bottles demonstrate the students’ commitment to environmental conservation. This initiative serves as an inspiration for others to take similar steps in promoting sustainability and nurturing a greener future.
