Jamshedpur, Sept 5: Shipra Mishra (41), science teacher from Tata Workers Union Plus Two Uchcha Vidyalaya, Kadma received the National Teachers Award at Vigyan Bhawan in New Delhi on Monday. Mishra received the award from President of India Droupadi Murmu on the occasion of Teachers’ Day.

Shipra who received the award for her contribution in innovative teaching and contributing to the development of her school is one of the youngest teachers to receive the award. She received a commendation and a cash award of Rs 50,000. Mishra is the only teacher from Jharkhand to receive this award this year. A short video on her contribution was also showcased at the award ceremony.

Officials of the education department in Jamshedpur and officials of the state education department watched the live broadcast of the ceremony on television and also on their smartphones. East Singhbhum district education officer (DEO) Nirmala Barelia watched the live programme on her mobile phone.

“My aim is to make my school a model school that can inspire others. I am grateful to my school, the education department, my colleagues and my students,” said Mishra over the phone post the award function.

Mishra apart from her innovative teaching in science had also taken an extra effort during the lockdown in the last two years. With her colleagues, she had ensured that the everyday lessons reach out to every single student of their school as many students of government schools did not have smart phones to go through the digital lessons available on government applications and the ones sent by the respective school teachers.

It was a double celebration for the Tata Workers Union Plus Two Uchcha Vidyalaya, Kadma. On one hand when their teacher received the national award, they were also awarded the Swachch Vidyalaya Puraskar at a state function in Ranchi on Monday. The school will now be nominated for the national Swachch Vidyalaya Puraskar.
