Jharkhand: 19 high schools may be converted to plus-two soon

Ranchi, April 28: The Jharkhand School Education and Literacy Department, along with the Department of Secondary Education is to soon upgrade several high schools to plus-two schools.

The Department of School Education and Literacy has sought reports from all the districts. So far, the education department has received applications from 19 schools in nine districts to be converted from high schools to plus two schools.

All the districts have been asked to provide names of the high school that will be upgraded to plus-two, along with the number of rooms available at present. The department has also asked for the total number of students enrolled in classes nine and 10, the name and distance of the plus-two school nearest to the school, the nearest In the plus-two, the number of students enrolled in 11th-12th will have to be given.

At the same time, when the school becomes plus-two, what will be the distance of these schools from such already existing plus two schools.

The Director of Secondary Education has sought the report from the concerned districts. The education department has received information from various sources that students still have to travel a long distance to school to get a plus-two level education. Proposals have been received to upgrade some schools to plus-two, in such a situation reports have been sought from the districts as to how many high schools in their districts need to be upgraded to plus-two.

As per sources in the School Education and Literacy department, initially, there were 59 plus two schools after the formation of Jharkhand. After some time, in around 2006 another 171 high schools were upgraded to plus two, after which in 2016 another 280 schools were upgraded, making the final number 510.

Another 125 schools have been upgraded recently into plus two schools, making it to 635 in total now. As per information, 510 schools have classes undergoing, while they have not yet begun in the new 125 schools.

Notably, the Jharkhand government provides facilities of one plus-two school for a population of 10,000 and within a radius of every seven-eight kilometres. In such a situation, according to the need, high schools are upgraded to plus-two schools. The report of the district-level committee helps the department by surveying additional plus-two schools.

Some of the proposed schools that are to be upgraded to plus two schools are:

  • Upgraded High School, Giddhaur Chatra
  • Upgraded High School Rajmahal Sahibganj
  • High School Aatapur Uddha Sahibganj
  • Harijan High School Phudkipurv Sahibganj
  • Janata High School Gwalpur Barharwa Sahibganj
  • Mahant Sri Ramchandrapuri Government High School Gardaha Kandi Garhwa
  • Government High School Poljih Hussainabad Palamu
  • Level High School Mohammadganj Palamu
  • Upgraded High School Jordsa Patmada East Singhbhum
  • Pakuria High School Baharagora East Singhbhum
  • Chiteshwar High School Baharagora East Singhbhum
  • High School Rajpur Pakur
  • High School Beldanga Pakur
  • Upgraded School Kala Dumaria Jarmundi Dumka
  • Nalini Patrika High School Bandajari Sarwan Deoghar
  • Upgraded High School Katamkulhi Petarwar Bokaro and,
  • Upgraded High School Tirla Gomia Bokaro
