Ranchi, July 8: Adani Group is likely to start the commercial operation of its 1,600 mw thermal power plant being built in Godda district to supply power to Bangladesh latest by October.
“All the work in Jharkhand is complete. The plant is 90 per cent ready. Only the finishing touches are being done. It should be commissioned in September or latest by October,” said a senior company official.
The coal-fired plant with two 800 mw units is being built by Adani Power (Jharkhand) Limited using ultra-supercritical technology with equipment imported from China.
“This will be a green plant. The technology on which it is being built is eco-friendly. The total investment in the Godda project has been Rs 15,000 crore,” he said, adding that Adani Power has completed the transmission line to supply power to Bogura district in Bangladesh.
Adani Group had signed an agreement with Bangladesh Power Development Board (BPDB) in 2017 to supply 1,600mw power under a cross-border electricity trade deal signed between India and Bangladesh.
The company is also obliged to supply 25 per cent of its production, or 400 mw power, to Jharkhand, for which the company official said that the country’s largest private power company can supply power to Jharkhand from any of its plants across India.
Adani has seven operational power plants spread across Gujarat, Maharashtra, Rajasthan, Karnataka and Chhattisgarh with a total installed capacity of 12,450 mw.
The company plans to add more than 7,000 mw power generation capacity. It is working on power projects in Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat, Rajasthan and Karnataka, apart from Jharkhand.
