Ranchi, Dec 31: Asha Kiran Barla from Gumla has been selected in the senior camp of athletics for the Target Olympic Podium Scheme (TOPS) which will be held in Bengaluru till March 31, 2023.

Notably, Asha has become the first player in the country to join the senior camp at just the age of 16. Her coach Ashu Bhatia said that Asha is one of the five new athletes who have been placed in the senior athletics players’ camp for the 800-metre event.

“ I am very happy with the news. It is her sheer hard work that has made her achieve this. I am really proud because this is the first time that an athlete from Jharkhand has been selected for TOPS,” Bhatia said.

Moreover, Asha won gold in the 800-metre event at the Asian Youth Athletics Championship in Kuwait this year. It was also a record performance because she finished the race in 2:04 minutes. She also won gold in the Under-20 event of the National Junior Athletics Championships.
