Jharkhand Badminton Championship: Aadhya wears double crown, Niraj wins boys’ singles

Dhanbad, Nov 14: Aadhya Singh of Saraikela while maintaining her supremacy in the girls’ category of the Jharkhand badminton championship wore double crown as she won the under-17 singles and doubles titles in the championship cum selection trial for the national tournament which concluded at the indoor stadium on Sunday evening.

In the under-17 singles final, Aadhya Singh playing as per her reputation defeated Ananya Singh of Ranchi by 21-12, 21-16. Earlier pairing with Saraah Sharma of Jamshedpur, Aadhya beat Yogitha Bora (Ranchi) and Vaibhivimaan (Dhanbad) by 2-12, 21-13 in the final to win the doubles title.

This was the second singles title of the year for Aadhya as in September, she had won the state under-19 championship held at Jamshedpur.

 

BOYS’ CATEGORY:

In the boys’ section of the under-17 singles final, Niraj Kesri of Ranchi defeated Rupesh Raj of Jamshedpur in a three-set encounter. Though Kesri lost the first set by 18-21, once settled in the court, he bagged 2nd set by 21-13 and 3rd set by 21-16 to win the title.

 

However, Rupesh compensated for his loss in the singles event by winning the under-17 boys’ doubles title. Pairing with promising player Rounak Negi of Jamshedpur, he defeated the Ranchi pair of brothers Amaan and Ayaan  Rahman by 21-16,21-19. Ayaan and Amaan brothers were also runners-up in the under-19 championship held at Jamshedpur in September.

 

U-15 CATEGORY

Ananya Singh of Ranchi clinched the girl’s under-15 singles title defeating Pihu Singh of Dhanbad in the final 21-10, 21-10.

In the girls’ under-15 doubles final, the Jamshedpur pair of Anshika Tyagi-Vaibhivi Srivastava beat Pihu (Dhanbad)-Kanishka Ray (Jamshedpur) by 21-15, 16-21 and 21-18.

In the boys’ category, Sujal Rakshit of Dhanbad became the first-time under-15 boys champion defeating Ashu Gopal of Ranchi in three sets by 21-15, 17-21 and 21-12.

 

Krish Dubey and Suraj Pratap Singh of Jamshedpur pair bagged the boys’ under-15 doubles title defeating Ashu Gopal- Pranjit Ranjan Sinha of Ranchi  21-13, 21-12 in the final.

In the final ceremony, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Sanjiv Kumar and Senior DCM Dhanbad Rail Division Amresh Kumar were the chief guest and guest of honour respectively and they gave away trophies to winners and runners-up.

Vice-president Rakesh Tiwary, secretary Samrat Choudhary, joint secretary Satish Kumar, Rajesh Jha, Sandeep Dey, Dipankar Banerjee, Parimal Singh, Dinesh Mandal and  Priyaranja were also present.

National panel referee Wasim Akram of Ranchi, Madhurendra Singh of DVC, Abhishek Singh (Dhanbad), Ravi Kumar, Ashwini Kumar (Deoghar), Sudhanshu Shekhar, Madhusudan Murmu (Dumka) officiated the championship.
