Jamshedpur, May 23: Jharkhand continued to reel under intense heatwave conditions with mercury soaring to as high as 45 degrees Celsius in some areas.
However, partial relief is expected later this week with light rains in some parts of the state, a weather official said today.
Daltonganj registered the highest temperature in the last 24- hours at 44.9 degrees Celsius, while Jamshedpur recorded 43.5 degrees and temperatures at Garhwa, Ramgarh stood at around 43 degrees.
“Light rains and thunderstorms are expected for two-three days from May 21 that may decrease the temperature by two to four degrees,” Ranchi meteorological centre in-charge Abhishek Anand said.
State capital Ranchi saw its temperature hovering around 41 degrees Celsius.
The weather remained dry over Jharkhand during the past 24- hours.
Today, heat wave condition is expected to prevail in Jamshedpur and several other parts of Kolhan. Heat wave is also likely to prevail in northwestern parts of the state.
