Ranchi, June 28: Nikki Pradhan, Salima Tete and Sangeeta Kumari from Jharkhand have been selected for the FIH Women’s Hockey World Cup 2022 to be held in Netherlands and Spain from July 1 to 17. This is the first time that a player in Jharkhand has been selected for the Indian women’s hockey team for the World Cup.

A total of 16 teams will participate in the world cup and are divided into four bridges. India’s team is in Pool B along with England, New Zealand and China. India’s first match is against England on July 2 followed by China on July 5 and New Zealand on 7 July.

Nikki Pradhan has played in two Olympics in the past and Salima Tete has played with the Indian team in the Tokyo Olympics last year. Sangeeta Kumari has represented India in the Junior World Cup this year.

Nikki Pradhan is a resident of Khunti whereas Salima Tete and Sangeeta Kumari are from Simdega.

Expressing his happiness, the President of Hockey Jharkhand said that now Jharkhand players are being selected in India for big competitions and it is a proud moment for the whole of Jharkhand. He also congratulated the players on the world cup.

“It is a moment of pride for all of us. If our coaches and union officials continue to work hard, then in the coming days more players will be seen in the Indian team. There is no dearth of talent in Jharkhand, these talents just need to be brought to the fore and the team needs to be selected transparently from the bottom level,” he said.
