Daltonganj, Nov. 19: The state government has sanctioned 12 degree colleges in five universities of Jharkhand namely Ranchi University, Ranchi, Vinoba Bhave University, Hazaribag, SKM University, Dumka, NP University, Medininagar and Kolhan University, Chaibasa.

These colleges are in accordance with the principle of state government to have at least one degree college in every assembly constituency.

Ranchi university got one degree college at Silli. Kolhan University is given one degree college at Jugsalai. SKM university Dumka is to have a degree college at Jama.VB University Hazaribag got 6 degree colleges namely at Bagodar, Jamna, Barkagaon, Mandu and Simarya.

Close on the heels of Hazaribag is the Nilamber Pitamber university which has been given 3 colleges, one each at Panki and Bishrampur in Palamu district and Balumath in Latehar district.

According to sources, the process of establishing degree colleges is in its early stages, with plots of land on which these colleges will be built being located, identified, and verified for issues such as dispute of ownership, shrubs on the plot of land, gair majarua land, forest-free land, and other issues.

Sources said by 2024 one can expect these colleges to be properly functional as it has been seen it takes minimum of 3 years for a college to come up.

NP University’s convener of college development council, A K Pandey along with his team comprising Assistant Registrar Razi Khan recently inspected the earmarked land for the degree college at Tasatbar under the Balumath block in Latehar district.

Circle officer of Balumath Anchal, Aftab Alam said the 5-acre plot of land at Tasatbar is free of jungle-jharee. It is only two and a half kilometers away from NH 22.

The CO further said the location of the plot of land is highly conducive for the degree college as here there is no din and bustle of the town.

Sources said the NP University had rejected a plot of land proposed for the Mahila College on the grounds of the ‘sick location’.

A couple of college buildings under the NPU are nearing completion where the major task of the government will be to create and sanction posts and faculties and find faculties as well etc.

Sources said the NP University despite many shortcomings continues to expand its academic territory in far-flung areas but it hardly wants to be showcased. Colleges get opened but continue to languish on account of the faculties.
