Ranchi, Jan 18: The state government is set to begin satellite mapping of more than four lakh hand pumps, water sources under the schemes to supply drinking water run by the Department of Drinking Water and Sanitation in February.
According to departmental officials, the work of satellite mapping will begin in all the districts of the state in February after a pilot project regarding the same ends this month. The project was started in December in Ranchi and Ramgarh districts by the Department of Drinking Water and Sanitation.
The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) plans to monitor the state’s four lakh hand pumps as well as the drinking water supply scheme and connecting water sources with a satellite. The app has been prepared in collaboration with Jharkhand Space Application Centre and Department of Drinking Water and Sanitation. The details of all the hand pumps across the state will be uploaded in the app. All information about hand pumps and water resources will be available within a click for users over the app, which will be monitored by a GIS specialist, Program Management Unit building located in Ranchi.
A survey of each hand pump will be conducted in the state with the help of Jal Sahiya. Reports submitted by the Jal Sahiya will inform users of the scheme under which the hand pump has been installed, the depth of the hand pump and when and when the repair work was done. The app will also inform the user whether the hand pump was made under a single village scheme or multi-village scheme.
All the divisions of the Department of Drinking Water and Sanitation will upload the records of each hand pump and water source under them in the app.
