Earlier on June 9, the high court had taken suo moto cognizance in the murder of Manpreet Singh in Sidgora. A division bench of Chief Justice Ranjan and Justice Sujit Narayan Prasad has taken notice of this matter and has directed for a response from the state administration in the matter.

The court has sought information from the state government on whether or not a witness protection programme exists in the state. The court has a fixed date of June 27 for further hearing in the matter.

Manpreet Singh, a young man from Jamshedpur’s Sidhgora, was slain after he returned home from a court hearing. The killer broke open his door and shot him dead in front of his mother in Jamshedpur.
