Ranchi, Aug 2: The Jharkhand High Court on Tuesday deferred hearing of the habeas corpus petition filed by lawyer Rajiv Kumar’s father Satyadeo Rai till August 10. A bench of Chief Justice Dr. Ravi Ranjan and Justice Sujit Narayan Prasad directed senior lawyer Ritu Kumar to submit the copy of the FIR against Rajiv Kumar.
Rajiv Kumar was arrested by the Kolkata police on Sunday night and claimed to have recovered a cash Rs 50 lakh from his possession which he had allegedly extorted from Kolkata based businessman Amit Agrawal. The FIR was lodged at Hare Street police station (case no. 222 dated 31st July 2022) under section 7 A of PC Act, 120 B and 384 of IPC.
On Monday a local Kolkata court forwarded him to six days of police remand for further questioning.
The Kolkata police alleged that the lawyer demanded Rs 10 Crore from Amit Agrawal to absolve him from an ongoing PIL at the Jharkhand High Court. Rajiv Kumar is represented by his lawyer Ravi Shanker Chatterjee who said that they have approached the police to provide them the copy of the FIR.
“We hope to get justice from the court. Rajiv Kumar was implicated in a false case under a larger conspiracy as he is fighting several cases of illegal mining, disproportionate assets and others,” said the lawyer.
Meanwhile, his family members have feared for their security as well as Rajiv Kumar.
