Ranchi, Sept.1: The Jharkhand High Court today issued contempt notices to advocate general (AG) Rajeev Ranjan and additional advocate general (AAG) Sachin Kumar.

The development took place after Justice S.K.Dwivedi heard the arguments on an interlocutory application filed during the proceedings of a petition filed demanding a CBI probe in sub-inspector Rupa Tirkey’s death case.

The application was filed on August 26 demanding contempt proceedings against AG Ranjan and AAG Kumar for their attempt to restrain the court from hearing the petition demanding a CBI probe on the basis of a dialogue between a conducting lawyer and his client after the court proceedings on August 11.

The application was filed by the deceased’s father Devanand Oraon who had knocked on the door of the high court for a CBI probe.  After the application was filed, the AG and the AAG sought an apology saying their intention was just to inform the court. But despite that, the court issued notices.

A.G Ranjan confirmed the issuance of a notice saying he ‘has been asked as to why contempt proceedings be not started against him. Petitioner’s advocate Rajeev Kumar echoed the AG saying the court has fixed the date of October 5 for a hearing in the matter. AAG Kumar could not be available for his comment.

AG Ranjan had told the court on August 13 that he had heard petitioner’s advocate Rajeev Kumar saying that 200 percent the matter is going to be allowed. Submitting this, he had urged the court to remove the matter from the list of courts. On which, the court had asked him to give his submission in the form of an affidavit. But the AG supported by AAG Kumar showed his reluctance saying his oral submission is sufficient for action.

On which the court of Justice S.K.Dwivedi referred the matter to the chief justice for administrative decision. On August 26, the chief justice allowed Justice Dwivedi to continue hearing the case.
