Ranchi, July 5: Jharkhand High Court today paved the path for getting honorarium to the contract women employees on maternity leave.

This has become possible after Justice S.N.Pathak passed an order.

Justice Pathak’s order came in a petition filed by Monica, a female supervisor associated with the state social welfare department working in Deoghar.

Monica filed the petition when she was deprived of her honorarium for the period she was on maternity leave. First time she was on maternity leave from March 6, 2018 to August 18, 2018 and second time she was on the same leave from April 1 2021 to June 13, 2021.

She through her advocates Radha Krishna Gupta and Pinky Sao demanded Rs 3.48 lakh with interest from the social welfare department and the matter was listed for hearing in the court of Justice Pathak.

After argument in the case, Justice Pathak ordered the Jharkhand government to pay the said honorarium to Monika observing that women working on contract basis should also get maternity leave in the same way women working on regular basis are getting.
