Ranchi, Oct 10: The process of admission in the undergraduate courses in medical colleges of Jharkhand is to begin from October 10. The National Medical Commission (NMC) has released the schedule of admission counselling. On the basis of this schedule, students will be able to take admissions to medical colleges in Jharkhand.
Notably, admission is taken in both central and state quotas in the state’s medical colleges. The Jharkhand Combined Entrance Competitive Examination Board (JCECEB) conducts counselling for admission under the Jharkhand quota. The Health Department has sent the recommendation for counselling along with the details of seats to JCECEB in this regard.
Colleges providing seats under MBBS quota include:
- RIMS Ranchi (148)
- MGM Jamshedpur (83)
- Shaheed Nirmal Mahato College Dhanbad (41)
- Phulo Jhano Medical College Dumka (83)
- Manipal Tata Medical College Jamshedpur (25)
- Laxmi Chandravanshi Medical College Palamu (100)
- Medinirai Medical College Palamu (83)
- Sheikh Bhikhari Medical College Hazaribagh (83)
Notably, permission for admissions in Phulo Jhano Medical College Dumka, Medinirai Medical College Palamu and Sheikh Bhikhari Medical College Hazaribagh was earlier provided in the year 2019 for the first time on 100 seats each. However, the NMC had ordered a stop on admissions in said colleges in the second year due to a lack of infrastructure and teachers.

Dr Arun Kumar Choudhary, Principal, Phulo Jhano Medical College, Dumka and Dr Shailendra Kumar, Principal, Medinirai Medical College, Palamu, while speaking to lagatar24.com have confirmed that the approval letter has been sent for admission in the new session.
Meanwhile, colleges providing BDS seats include Dental Institute RIMS (52), Hazaribagh College of Dental Science and Hospital (85), Vananchal Dental College Garhwa (85) and Avadh Dental College Jamshedpur (85). On the other hand, colleges providing seats for Homeopathy degrees include Government Homoeopathic Medical College, Parspani, Godda (54) and Arogya Homeopathic Medical College, Jhalua, Garhwa (51).
Along with this, students also get the benefit on the basis of their set category quota. In the state-level medical counselling session, seats are marked for the students on the basis of their UG NEET All India Rank and State Merit List.
Category-wise seat distribution has also been done in medical colleges under the state quota. Under this, 40 percent of the state-level seats have been ensured for the general quota students. Apart from this, 10 percent of seats are secured on the EWS quota, 10 percent on the SC quota, 26 percent on the ST quota, 8 percent on BC I and 6 percent on BC II.
