Jharkhand: NTPC Tandwa plant completes trial operation in full load

Chatra, Jan 18: NTPC’s 1980 MW North Karanpura power plant in Tandwa today achieved the major and final milestone as its first 660MW first unit completed the trial operation in full load successfully. Deputy general manager (HR) of the power plant, Dheeraj Kumar Gupta confirmed the achievement and said with this all the hurdles of declaration of the first unit being Commercial have been surpassed.

Moreover, sources said the 1980 MW power plant will have three units of 660MW each. With the first unit is to start commercial production soon, and the second is to get commissioned anytime in November this year. The third will be commissioned by March next year, added Gupta while talking to Lagatar24.com.

He added that 72 hours of continuous operation of Unit-1 on full load started on Jan 15 and at 5:30 AM today and had been completed successfully.

Sources in NTPC said this was the final process and now anytime, it will be declared commercial. According to them, Jharkhand will get 167 MW of power from the first unit as per the MOU with the state government.

“Once the trio unit will get functional, the state will get 500 MW power out of 1980 MW,” they added.

Even Bihar will get 688MW, Odisha 396MW and Bengal 99MW power from this plant. Gupta confirmed this power-sharing agreement of NTPC with all these four states.

Sources said chief general manager Tajinder Gupta is leading the team for the inauguration of the first unit with NTPC sources said an invitation was sent to Prime Minister Narendra Modi to do this honour.

However, it is not clear whether the PM will come to Tandwa or inaugurate this power plant.

Notably, the power secretary is also coming to Tandwa and his visit is considered important at a time when the first unit is ready for commercial production.
